Cod Liver Oil For Kids

If you talk to your grandmother, I bet she will describe to you how amazing cod liver oil is. In 1950s, cod liver oil was just the magical vitamins for boys and girls, it kept the children free from colds and flus! Though I was born a few decades later, I was also fed with cod liver oil because I lived with my grandparents! Packed in glass bottle, the logo had a fisher with a huge fish behind him. Yes, I remember this product - it is Scott's Emulsion. Honestly, the taste is probably horrible but it has been claimed to work like a magical pill! Thus, it thrives on the shelves in Malaysia/Singapore as one of the food supplement for kids!

Cod Liver Oil Dosage

I was prompted to experiment after recommended by a friend. Suitable for toddlers above one, I placed the smallest size in my shopping cart a few months before Austin started attending playschool, so that I could bring home one for Austin. Nowadays there is an option for orange-flavored. To avoid questioning whether it was a natural or synthetic, I just picked the original flavor. The indication states 10 ml for kids between 1 to 3 years old, once daily dosing. As the kids grow older, it can go up to 15 ml once daily dosing for 4 to 6 years old and same amount twice daily for kids age 7 to 12 years old. Children who older than 12 years old and adult can consume up to 15 ml thrice a day!

Guess what happen when I first offered to Austin on a spoon? Turning head, from right to left, back and forth. Shaking, means no thanks. A few days later, I mixed a tea spoon of cod liver oil into his porridge, then offered to him, and he puked! So, what happen with the left over cod liver oil in the new bottle? Well, Austin's mom is the one benefits from it :).

Cod Liver Oil For Preschoolers

To our surprise, Austin's playschool does offer a dose of complimentary cod liver oil. We didn't know until we took Austin to class on first day. With parental consent, the kids that walk in are given a tea spoon each person to start their day. We had given our green light on the paper for Austin, but we are doubtful that he wants it. He has started to fiddle with the boxes that filling up the spoons, watching other kids queuing up for it, so only time can tell if he is going to like cod liver oil!
