Penang Beach Pantai Pasir Panjang

Pulau Betong's Pantai Pasir Panjang is not a familiar name to many when it comes to Penang beach. Unlike the popular beaches in Batu Feringghi, Pantai Pasir Panjang as the name describes is a long sandy beach on the south western tip of the isle. And it is secluded, that translates to an exclusive private beach! Not new to us, but to Austin - this was his first visit. We had been there at least a couple times. The most unforgettable experience was the hike from Gertak Sanggul, crossing orchards and tall bushes that took us to end up at the beach front of Pantai Pasir Panjang after trespassing the camp site. Syhhhh!
This time we went with a little one so it means everything has to be 'straight'. No hanky panky. We drove from Balik Pulau township, continued on Jalan Pondok Upih (P16), then passed Genting township before turning into a rural road P239 then Jalan Bahru (P237). Traffic is smooth and it only took 10 minutes from Balik Pulau. If you're coming from Teluk Bahang or totally new in the south-west district, driving on Jalan Bahru is perhaps a better option as it is a straight road instead of confusing corners and turns at Genting township.
Arriving about 10 am at this Penang beach, we were greeted by a hanging staircase. Floating, it was as if taking one to nowhere! However, when the sea water floods this area, it is not anymore. Exactly, the sea water ultimately may reach the tip of this concrete staircase, leaving us no where to walk but only for swim :D. Only three families were earlier than us and the long beach was almost unoccupied. Giving the luxury to pick an ideal spot, we walked further up at least 300 m away from the floating staircase and set-up our tent. Slipping Austin into a pair of aqua shoes, we were confidence that he could walk on the sand and wade water. Thinking of giving him a new experience, we took off his shoes, let him walk barefooted since the sand is soft, smooth and clean.
At first Austin didn't look comfortable stepping on sandy ground but playing catch-hug-kiss get him to pass the orientation.  As we got closer to the water line on this Penang beach, Austin was stunned when the first wave sweeping his feet. He smiled looking to the sea and horizon afar, anticipating for more waves to wash his legs. Guess this boy is in love with water of any kind, anywhere, anytime! And we hurried home around noon since the sea gave us a warning that it could swallow our tent in anytime :)

Does the picture above remind you of a movie? Well, this is the clue - I saw Elizabeth Swan and Will Turner Junior but this is the Asian version :D. Yesss, you got it right - Pirates of the Caribbean: At the World’s End!
